Finding a Dedicated Web Hosting Solution

If you have been toiling on the Internet for a long time, slowly building your business, you probably have websites and domain names scattered all over the place. At one time, I had domain names registered at five different registrars, web space on three different servers, and I was picking up my email through Google, Yahoo, and through my own domains using Outlook. At that time, I decided it was probably time for me to consolidate and look at a dedicated web hosting solution.

There are a lot of pro's and con's to running your own server and if you are starting to look at a dedicated web hosting solution, you should be aware of all of them. First of all, you may end up spending more time working on the server than you do no your website or your business. Make sure you have the technical expertise, or know someone that does, before you move over to this kind of server solution.

But, if you feel confident in your skills (or your staff), then having a dedicated web hosting solution can be a big advantage to a mid- to large-size business. You will have full accessibility and functionality on your server. You will be able to run any type of operating system you like, and any kind of database or shopping cart that you like. Your data will also be much safer than if you were running on a shared server.

However, there is a downside to this freedom. You absolutely have to have the skills in place to handle the responsibility of running your own server. You will need someone on call, 24 hours a day, and that person may just be yourself! Remember that if the server goes down, and your email and website are offline, it is your responsibility - so think twice before making this move.
